| Z-Guides® have licensed
the innovative Z-Card® folding format
to the Langenscheidt publishing group
as part of Berlitz's exciting re-launch
package for 2004.
Z-Guides® own range of International
City GuideMaps will be consolidated
with a new programme of international
and UK city destinations, regional
guides and a language series to make
the best true pocket-sized GuideMap
range in the world. Berlitz will launch
their Z-GuideMap® range in spring 2004.
Geocenter will distribute the Berlitz
Z-GuideMap® range in the UK with sister
company American Map Corporation distributing
in the USA and Insight Guides in all
other English-speaking markets.
Berlitz, Geocenter, Insight Guides
and American Map Corporation are all
part of the multinational travel and
reference Langenscheidt Publishing
Group. Z-Guides® is working with other
Langenscheidt companies, Insight Guides
and Polyglot and has an active new
product development agenda with the
Langenscheidt Group.
Z-Guides® was founded in 2000 by
Simon Butler, who now operates under
his publishing and packaging company,
Albatross Publishing. Simon Butler
comments on the agreement with Langenscheidt,
"We believe that the deal with Langenscheidt
opens up the most original and innovative
travel publishing format of recent
years for their group to gain an important
advantage in the highly competitive
maps and guides market.
"Berlitz is one of the most recognised
travel brands worldwide and it is
fitting that the Z-Card® format will
contribute to an exciting new phase
in the history of the brand.
"Z-GuideMap®s' formula of travel
information combined with a quality
map is compressed into a smaller,
more convenient format than any other
retail travel product. Our innovation
in format and style of content pleases
travellers and users worldwide.
"The association with Berlitz in particular and the Langenscheidt Group in
general adds the essential sales,
marketing and distribution pieces
that have been missing in the jigsaw
of our GuideMap programme.
"The relationship with Langenscheidt
adds to our record of success with
such important brand names as AA,
Falk, Blay-Foldex, MapQuest, Oz Clarke
and English Heritage. We continue
to seek out associations with major
brands to deliver our unique high-quality
information and lifestyle products."
Ian MacDonald of Geocenter comments, "Berlitz revolutionised and dominated the travel publishing market with its pocket format travel and language guides. The Z-Guides® format is a logical development for the Berlitz brand to meet the needs of modern short-break, low-cost, impulse-based travel.
"Our launch range for 2004 will cover
all the major international city destinations
with a new focus on UK cities to improve
our profile in UK guides. The ability
of Z-Guides® to focus on specific
traveller needs, including language
survival, makes them a flexible yet
essential aid to any visitor travelling
away from home."
Jeremy Westwood of Berlitz and Insight
Guides adds, "The Z-Card® is a
natural travel format and we are pleased
to add this to the re-launched Berlitz
programme. Their pocket-sized format
and cleverly conceived content are
a natural fit with all the known values
that the Berlitz brand offers."
